I've just returned from an amazing holiday in South America, Punta del Este in Uruguay to be specific. It was very special. Hot weather, laid back attitude, great food, great walks, amazing sunsets, kilometres of beaches with fine white sand, waves for the brave and calm waters for young children. A holiday to remember and be repeated.
I know its a long way away, 17 hours by plane from London with one change either in Madrid, Sao Paolo or Buenos Aires, but once there it was well worth it.
If anyone is interested in learning more about holidaying in Uruguay, I would be very happy to give you a hand and suggestions. I am Uruguayan by birth, I left when I was 20 and moved to New York. That was an eye-opener for 10 years and then came to the UK, where my family originates from. A stint in the Middle East and we settled back in the UK as my children slotted into secondary school. And here we are but we escape to Uruguay when we can.
We have a flat in Punta del Este which is listed on airbnb and VRBO. (Cosy Sea View Flat on Playa de los Ingleses). I'm happy to give MMLM Kids followers a 15% discount. Just mention PuntaHolidays when you want to book and I'll send you a special offer. Best time to go: Spring is October through Summer (December, January and February), Autumn is end of March through April).
Let me share a few images with you.
I have selected a few images which are particular to the coast line though the whole country is beautiful, serene and worth a visit.

It looks like there aren't many people ... there aren't
One can drive for hours and only see a distant farmhouse, horses, cows and sheep grazing in vast fields.
Food is delicious, similar to the Argentinian diet, is based on beef, fresh fish and locally produced vegetables. People are welcoming. Main language is Spanish but many in the cities understand and speak English.
If you are looking for a holiday with a difference, I definitely recommend it.
