Butter biscuits are perfect for children to help mummy make. The best part is cutting the dough into shapes and decorating them with flakes or stars or sprinkles just before it goes into the oven. They are light and yummy to eat. Perfect for school lunch boxes or snacks.
You will need:
- 2 large bowls
- beater
- 2 baking trays
Ingredients:
- 1/2 Cup butter - softened
- 1/2 Cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 2 Cups and 2 tbsp flour - sifted
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
(Optional 1/4 Cup chopped walnuts)
Instructions:
1. Turn oven on to 375*F (190*C)
2. Take 2 baking trays and smear lightly with butter
3. In a large bowl beat together butter and sugar until smooth. Add egg, milk and vanilla and continue beating until smooth
4. In a separate bowl sift flour. Add baking powder and salt
5. Add flour mixture to butter mixture in two parts and mix to form a soft dough. (Optional : add chopped walnuts).
6. On a flat surface (marble top or similar) sprinkle a little flour so the dough mixture doesn't stick. Roll dough out to approx 1/2cm thickness
7. Take different shapes and cut the dough into shapes.
8. Decorate with sprinkles.
9. Place biscuits on the buttered baking dish and place in the oven for 10 minutes.
This recipe should make approximately 4 dozen biscuits
